Language Interviews, Placement Tests and Timetables

Arabic Studies

Students wishing to enrol in Arabic subjects in second semester will only be permitted to do so if they have completed the prerequisites for the subjects in which they wish to enrol or on the satisfactory completion of an appropriate placement test.

The placement test will be held on Wednesday 23 July 2008, 12 midday, room 115, first floor, Sidney Myer Asia Centre Building. Students are not required to register for this test. Students only need to arrive at the above venue before the starting time.

Students who do not attend the placement test on that day will not be permitted to enrol. It is not possible to make alternative arrangements for individual students to accommodate mid-year entry.

Chinese Studies

Students wishing to enrol in Chinese subjects in second semester will only be permitted to do so if they have completed the prerequisites for the subjects in which they wish to enrol or on the satisfactory completion of an appropriate interview and/or placement test. Students will be informed at their interview whether they will be required to sit a placement test or not.

All interviews will be held on Wednesday 23 July 2008, 10:00am-1:00pm, room 114, first floor, Sidney Myer Asia Centre Building. Students are to complete the form titled “Prospective New Student” and bring it with them to their interview. A list of interview times will be displayed on the Chinese Program notice board located on the 1st floor of the Sidney Myer Asia Centre Building from Monday 7 July 2008. Students are required to sign up for the interviews.

The placement test will be held on Thursday 24, July 2008, 2:00-4:00pm, , room 114, first floor, Sidney Myer Asia Centre Building.

Students who do not attend interviews will not be permitted to enrol. It is not possible to make alternative arrangements for individual students to accommodate mid-year entry.

Indonesian Studies

Students wishing to enrol in Indonesian subjects in second semester will only be permitted to do so if they have completed the prerequisites for the subjects in which they wish to enrol or on the satisfactory completion of an appropriate placement test.

The placement test will be held on Tuesday, 22 July 2008, 11.00 am, first floor, , room 114, Sidney Myer Asia Centre Building. Students are not required to register for this test. Students only need to arrive at the above venue before the starting time.

Students who do not attend the placement test on that day will not be permitted to enrol. It is not possible to make alternative arrangements for individual students to accommodate mid-year entry.

Japanese Studies

Students wishing to enrol in Japanese subjects in the second semester will only be permitted to do so if they have completed the prerequisites for the subjects in which they wish to enrol or on the satisfactory completion of an appropriate placement test.

The placement test will be held on Thursday, 24 July 2008, 10:00 am, room 115, first floor, Sidney Myer Asia Centre Building. Students are not required to register for this test. Students only need to arrive at the above venue before the starting time.

Students who do not attend the placement test on that day will not be permitted to enrol. It is not possible to make alternative arrangements to accommodate individual students to accommodate mid-year entry.

All Asia Institute undergraduate tutorials will be allocated through Alloc8. Please remember that you must be enrolled in a subject before you can receive a tutorial allocation.

LOTE Accreditation Exams

The Institute holds examinations for LOTE accreditation for prospective teachers of Arabic, Chinese, Indonesian and Japanese in the first or second week of January and June each year. All examinations consist of written and oral components.
