Background
Shigeko Nariyama obtained her BA (Hons) from Monash University and her PhD from the University of Melbourne in Linguistics. Shigeko also has formal qualifications and extensive experience in translation and interpreting.
Research Interests
Research interests include not only a range of issues in linguistics and translation, but also natural language processing, in which she was awarded International Fellowships at the Stanford Research Institute (Artificial Intelligence Center) and NTT (Japanese Telcom) Communication Science Laboratories (Machine Translation Group) as a Ph.D Student. Since then, she has taken a number of fellowships: JSPS fellowship at Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) in 2002-2004, at NTT in 2005, and at the National Institute for Japanese Language in 2007.
