Background
Philippa Riley completed a Bachelor of Asian Studies with honours at La Trobe University with majors in Asian Studies and Politics. Her honours thesis was called "2-28 and the Politics of Memory in Taiwan." She lived and worked in Taipei from 1992 to 1998 and studied Mandarin at the Chinese Culture University.
Philippa is currently a PhD candidate in the Asia Institute and the School of Historical Studies supervised by Lewis Mayo and Antonia Finnane. Philippa's thesis is titled "Ghosts in the Landscape: Contested Space in Taipei, 1987-2008." She has tutored in '110-053: Taiwan' at the Asia Institute.
Research Interests
Space, place, memory and history; nation-building and identity in the cityscape; contemporary Taiwan.
