Background
Imran K. Lum is a research assistant with the Centre for Islamic Law and Society (CILS) and a PhD candidate in Islamic Banking at the Asia Institute, The University of Melbourne. Imran completed his undergraduate degree at Adelaide University and a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Islamic Studies at The University of New England on: 'Ijtihad: The Construction and De-construction of Religious Authority'. His current doctoral thesis is on: 'The Demand for Islamic Banking in Australia and the UK: A Study of the Approaches to Riba and the Religious, Economic and Social Factors Influencing Bank Selection Criteria of Australian and British Muslims'.
